Chapman Learning Project Assistant

As a Chapman Learning Commons Project Assistant, my daily tasks involve cultivating a supportive learning environment for students, faculty, staff, and community members. This includes serving as the first point of contact for patrons, referring them to resources within the CLC and across UBC, and providing technology and equipment support. I also assist with the daily operations of the Learning Centre, foster a friendly and interdisciplinary learning environment, and engage in resources.

Reflecting on my experience as a Chapman Learning Commons Project Assistant, I can say that working there for 1.5 years was an incredible opportunity for me to develop and improve my skills. Not only did I gain experience in customer service, but I also learned how to troubleshoot various technical issues and provide support for a wide range of technologies. Additionally, my time as a Project Assistant allowed me to hone my project management and resource development skills, as I worked on creating and delivering innovative projects and initiatives to support student learning. Overall, I am grateful for the skills and experience I gained during my time at the Chapman Learning Commons and I believe they will be valuable in my future career endeavors.

In Term 1, I completed the Collegium Visits, which involved attending around eight workshops, one for each Collegium. This experience gave me an opportunity to learn about various topics and engage with different individuals across the campus community. Additionally, I wrote a blog post on Podcasts, which allowed me to reflect on my personal interests and share my thoughts with others. During the first meeting of the term, I also had to re-do an ice-breaker, which allowed me to improve my communication skills and better connect with my colleagues.

In Term 2, I created a workshop on Chrome Hacks for CLC workers, which involved teaching my colleagues different shortcuts and commands to improve their productivity when using Chrome. As a result of this workshop, I also wrote a blog post on different chrome shortcuts, which gave me an opportunity to share my knowledge with a broader audience. Overall, these experiences helped me develop my presentation and teaching skills, while also expanding my technical knowledge.
